Sydney Day 6: 2 July 2015 (Grand Pacific Highway)

Woke up early this morning to pick up my rental car and drove immediately south toward Scarborough Hotel via the Grand Pacific Highway.  The highway drive was magnificent as the winding roads hug the coastline.  The road even went over the seawaters!!

A stop at Scarborough Hotel afforded yet another breathtaking coastal view, only this time it was accompanied with a hot cuppa Camomile tea and delicious cheese cake.  The cake was made with local ingredients and was nice and slightly tangy, yet firm.  It was nice looking at the coast with plastic screen protecting the strong winds.  But I just had to step out for a clearer view, and the 'breeze' really sent the chills down into my bones!!!

The drive along the coast continued south and to Nan Tien Temple where a lunch stopover was made.  Sadly the signature curry noodles was sold out and the other dishes fell flat.  But it was a pleasant change from the daily angmo food fare.

rather tasteless 'wanton' noodles
'char siew' rice

It was back to the road again, and a straight drive south to Kiama.  Kiama is a small coastal town with wonderful beaches and a quaint white lighthouse.  The highlight, though, was a blowhole.  It was my first visit to a blowhole.  Unfortunately the timing wasn't right and I witnessed only one wave splash.  It was then a leisure drive around the town to soak in some of the seaside living vibes.

Another very scenic countryside drive later and a stop at Stockland Shellharbour was made for additional shopping.  It seemed that you can take a Singaporean out of shopping, but you can't take shopping out of a Singaporean!!!  The car was eventually filled with bags and bags of local produce!!!  Then it was another long drive back to Sydney.

so lucky to find this!! you really couldn't find it in the city
Along the way, stopped by a suburb area for dinner at The Crest hotel.  Over ordered again and left with an overloaded tummy.

350g medium rare steak

pork belly burger
squid and carrot salad
