Kuala Lumpur - 16-19 April 2016

My second holiday of the year, and this was my birthday trip!

After driving for 4 hours, I finally arrived at Bukit Bintang and checked into Izumi hotel.  It was great to be back staying in the middle of the shopping district (I usually stay at the YMCA opposite KL Sentral).  The weather was sunny hot at 34 degrees, but the spirit was high!

First up, it was a short walk to Fahrenheit 88 mall and finding A-Saloon for my haircut.  This was a premium saloon in Malaysia with great services.  Afterwards, it was a stroll to nearby Sungei Wang for a snack (KFC) and two (Herbal Jelly), plus changing some MYR.  Since this was a relaxing trip, it was back to the hotel for a quick wash up and an afternoon nap.  I needed to catch up with my sleep after many long working days!!

Upon waking up, it was time for dinner!  Feeling really relaxed, it was a short 10 minutes stroll to the well-known and well-established Cantonese restaurant Overseas Restaurant @ Jalan Imbi.  Even though it was only 5pm, the famous roasted pork was already sold out!!  Had to settle for roasted duck, Buddha-Jump-Over-The-Wall Soup, half a steamed fish and a plate of fresh stir fry vegetables instead.  After dinner was just a stroll along Bukit Bintang to soak up the atmosphere before heading back for an early night's sleep (yes, I was that tired!!).

The second day was a late day with no breakfast.  Instead, it was buffet time at the Shiok! Restaurant, located at the basement of the Starhill Gallery!  The spread was overwhelming!  On top of the standard spread you see before your eyes (it was a really long spread), there was even an ala-carte menu to order some made to order dishes.  The theme of the month was the Mad Hatter's Party, and the staff were dressed as characters in Wonderland.  There was even a magician who went around performing card tricks (I was amongst the few special guests to experience some first-hand magic tricks!).

After the very filling buffet, I needed to walk it off at the Pavilion mall nearby before walking back to the room for yet another afternoon nap!  I've been to KL so many times, the only worthwhile activities are usually eating, shopping and sleeping! Haha.

Yet a couple of hours nap later, it was a drive to PJ for a local favourite: the Heng Kee stir fry hokkien noodles.  This slippery plate of wonders was coated in sweet dark sauce and drenched in pork's lard.  Punched with big flavours with every bite!  On the side was a plate of stir fry vegetable that was perfectly cooked with a hint of char-burnt taste, plus a bowl of bitter gourd soup.

The third day was a relatively early one, since I was sleeping so much the 2 days prior.  It was a drive back to PJ again for breakfast.  I had this lasi lemak that infused with rich coconut cream.  Too bad it was the last plate and the condiments were no longer warm.  Still it was a good eat.  After breakfast, it was a short drive to the nearby electronic mall for some window shopping before heading to One Utama for some serious shopping!  A short 2 hours of shopping and I ended buying 2 tops and 1 bottom at a rate equivalent to SGD 70!  Not too shabby at all!

After the shopping, it was a drive back to the hotel to drop off before heading out for dinner along Jalan Alok.  Having visited KL so many times, this was actually my first walk along this famous food street!  Well, I usually would avoid tourist traps, but this street was just behind my hotel, so why not try it out for once?  I settled for the most proper looking restaurant and ordered some porridge and side dishes.  Food was not fantastic, it was more for the ambience.

After a very full tummy, it was another stroll along the night of Bukit Bintang before heading back to pack up for tomorrow's return journey.  It was a great trip doing nothing but sleeping, eating and shopping!  The simple joys of life!

The next morning was breakfast at Imbi's Bak Kut Teh, although standards has dropped quite a few notches.  Had one more bowl of the herbal jelly as well at Sungei Wang mall.  Afterwards, it was a drive all the way to Johor's Bukit Indah for dinner.

After arriving at Bukit Indah, it was an hour of full body massage at the nearby rows of shophouses before dining at available restaurant at the AEON Bukit Indah.  Not a fantastic dinner with poorly done food at Souper Tang.  After the dinner, I finally had my birthday cake!  Yum.  It was a short but restful trip.
